After School Program

Malachi Center is dedicated to helping children realize their full potential and to providing a safe environment for students to go after school.

Malachi Center provides after school tutoring, academic support, social emotional skills programming, and enrichment for youth in grades K-8 free of charge.

The Program Includes:

• Transportation to Malachi Center
• Tutoring, homework, and other learning activities
• Drawing, creative expression, reading, learning games, and active games.
• A meal (in partnership with Children’s Hunger Alliance).
• Enrichment
• Social emotional learning activities
• Reading time
• Art therapy

Additionally, youth participate in swimming lessons, rowing, and basketball, seasonally. Youth will also have opportunities to sample and learn new sports, such as lacrosse and tennis, through a partnership with Ohio City Incorporated, the local community development corporation. Service projects for youth and families will also take place seasonally.

For 6th through 8th graders, we focus on getting ready for high school and beyond. Students learn how to be leaders, visit college campuses, prepare for high school and learn about life skills. There are opportunities to demonstrate skills though different projects like helping to plan a community festival.

Once a month, the Center welcomes families to spend time with their children doing a fun activity and strengthen bonds. We also provide support services for families. All services are provided free of charge to students and families.
