Holiday Wish List 2021

Dear Malachi Center Friends,

The holidays are a wonderful season of love, giving, and unity. We are reminded of your past generosity,
which has fueled our ability to help families on the near West Side of Cleveland, especially during the
Holiday seasons. Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, our Adopt-a-Family program looks a bit different this
year. We have limited the families we are adopting to a list of those we currently serve. We know that
there are still families in need in our community. We are writing to invite you to participate in a different
way. If you are still interested in helping out a family in need for the holidays, Malachi Center has
compiled a list of the various types of ways you can choose to donate instead of participating in the
Adopt a Family program:

Create your own Holiday Family Bag!

Compile your own family bag full of activities, toiletries, winter gear, and holiday supplies. Grab a tote
bag, fill it, and drop it off at the Center and we will coordinate its distribution to a family in need! We
have attached a list of suggested items, but feel free to take some liberty with the contents of the family
bags themselves!

Items must be packaged into a tote bag and can include: Snacks (granola bars, chips, fruit
snacks, rice krispies, etc.), hot chocolate packets, mugs, S’mores kits, Gingerbread house kits,
markers, crayons, glitter glue, chalk, craft kits, coloring books, playing cards, Uno, Goldfish,
board games, activity books, slime kits, outdoor recreation items, jumpropes, blankets, 2
children’s winter hats, 2 pairs of children’s gloves, 1-2 adult winter hat and gloves, full-sized
toiletries (Bath and Body Works), deodorant, holiday gift items, kitchen towels, local pizza/
other eatery gift cards, body lotion, laundry detergent, sponges, dish washing soap, cleaning
spray, etc.**

**Your constructed bag should at a minimum include 2 children’s winter hats and 2 pairs of gloves and 1
adult winter hat and pair of gloves and a warm blanket! Please get in contact with Lynn Scott at [email protected] or 216-771-3036.

New Learning Pods!

The students served by Malachi Center have faced unprecedented challenges in their learning this year. Malachi Center is responding with in-person learning pods which provide digital learning support, social-emotional skill building, and enrichment for children whose schools are offering virtual learning. These services require enhanced staffing and resources, which we need your help to provide.

The families served by Malachi Center have been disproportionately impacted by Covid-19 – educationally and economically. Together we can help to ensure that
children have access to the support and tools they need to learn and thrive . If the schools return to in person learning, Malachi Center will again pivot to after-school academic and enrichment programming. Please consider donating to our Learning Pod project

Sponsor A Camper

This six-week program provides low-income children with opportunities to have fun and learn in a safe, nurturing environment. This year’s camp may look a little different than it has in the past, but it will still be fun-filled. Campers will enjoy themed weeks, enrichment activities, sports, arts and crafts, and field trips.

Malachi Center is following Stay SafeOhio guidelines for day camp using masks, frequent hand-washing and hand sanitizer, sanitizing surfaces, and practicing social distancing.

To make the Malachi Center Summer Camp a success we need your help – and hope you will consider sponsoring a camper:

$20—Provides one day of camp for one child

$80—Provides one week of camp for one child

$480—Provides six weeks of camp for one child

You can donate at the link below or by calling Deby Auerbach-Brown at 216-771-3036. Thank you!

We are also in need of the following items for the camp:

  • Sanitizing wipes and cleaning supplies
  • We’re looking for healthy snacks in large quantities as well.
  • We need 36 containers to hold individual supplies for children in Summer Camp — The activity boxes are what we are using so everyone has their own individualized supplies.
  • Individual Supplies(Small size so they fit in the box) Bubbles, Sidewalk chalk, Playdough, Fidget spinners, Yoyos, Watercolor pencils, etc.
  • We also need water bottles for the children and jugs of water — we will be using both (one for field trips and one for here since we don’t have access to our water fountain.)
  • Yard games — Frisbees, Scoop ball sets, rubber horseshoe game, rubber bowling game, etc.
  • The older children will be earning service hours as their new roll of Junior Counselor(JC) They will earn gift cards per number of hours they have service. We are collecting donations of Gift Cards — places that are close to Malachi Center — McDonald’s, Mitchell’s ice cream, Happy’s Pizza, Wendys, etc.

Sponsor a Camper 2019!

Spring is in full bloom, the school year is almost over, and here at Malachi Center that means that Summer Camp is almost back in session!

This six-week program allows 50 low-income children to come to Malachi Center to learn and have fun in a safe environment. The camp’s literacy and skill building programs help to ensure that each child returns to school in the fall ready to succeed. The camp is also fun with themed weeks, swimming lessons, and field trips! New in 2019 – we are excited that this year the swim program will be expanding programming by providing swimming lessons for youth entering grades 6-8 (as well as the younger kids)and rowing instruction.

To make the Malachi Center Summer Camp a success we need your help – and hope you will consider sponsoring a camper:

$20—Provides one day of camp for one child

$80—Provides one week of camp for one child

$480—Provides six weeks of camp for one child

We are also looking for donations for larger quantities of snack foods for the camp.
